This is the plan for this module as it stands. It gets revisited once it’s reached — kept if it
still fits, changed or swapped out if something better turns up along the way.
Watch Sycra’s “The Importance of Construction in Drawing” — free, and it teaches
exactly the “built from shapes” thinking cartooning actually needs: run a simple line of
action through a form, then wrap simple solids (spheres, cylinders, boxes) around it. No
vanishing-point math required.
why it matters
This is the mental model behind every cartoon character in this style: a head is a rounded box, a
body is a blob or a sausage, a prop is two or three overlapping simple solids. Once this clicks,
gesture and character design (the next two modules) get dramatically easier.
Practice on ordinary objects around you before jumping to characters — a mug, a shoe, a
lamp. Simple, everyday subjects make the “shapes stacked in space” logic obvious.
Steps

Practice building a form around a single “arrow” line of action
Draw a page of everyday objects built from 2–3 overlapping simple solids (sphere, cylinder, box)
